Well, 2018 might not have been a great year but it wasn’t bad. Of course, the blisteringly lovely weather over the Summer, which everyone raved about, produced a few challenges for apple growers. In fact, our overall annual rainfall was not much down on the five year average – at 758mm rather than the usual 778 – but the problem was when it fell. With little rain falling in the main growing season we did see our tonnage slip compared to the “on year” that we had expected. This together, with our main orchard, which decided to take a bit of a rest for the first time in five years meant that we finished about 120 tons down on what we would had expected last year.
